As summer begins, we are taking you to Greece! For June we have selected 2 delicious wines that are perfect for the warm sunny days and cool gloomy evenings. These wines pay homage to indigenous grapes and wine making traditions of the region. We hope you enjoy these wines as much as we do! They pair wonderfully with food and good company!
Garalis - Terra Roza, 2022
We have selected a delicious skin contact / rosé crossover, from the volcanic island of Lemnos. Terra Roza is the natural ode to the rosé tradition of the island, where a hint of red limnio grapes are added into a blend with the island’s main grape, the white Muscat of Alexandria.
This wine has aromas of red fruits, strawberry, quince, dried flowers and an unmistakable umami character. It has an accentuated acidity, light tannins, restrained alcohol, full volume and a long aftertaste. The vines grow in the volcanic soils of the island of Lemnos, cultivated organically, with no chemical intervention, irrigation or fertilization. They are formed into cups and harvested at the end of August.
We love to pair this wine with Mediterranean dishes, charcuterie and strong cheeses, as well as shellfish dishes! This wine is the perfect pairing to any summer dinner party!
Stamnaki Agiorgitiko 2023
Stamnaki, which translates to “little wine jug,” is the product of the Denthis project, a cooperative of small family wineries which aims to celebrate indigenous Greek varietals vinified traditionally and with minimal intervention. Agiorgitiko (pronounced Ah-Your-Yee-Tee-Co) is a widely planted native grape that produces juicy, ample red wines.
We get fresh dark fruits, with plum and spices on the palate. With smooth tannins for such a mouthful, this is a red for all seasons and pairs very well with food!
Our favorite pairings are shakshuka w/feta cheese, lamb meatballs and a fresh orzo salad, or a alongside a cozy evening of spicy arrabbiata pasta!
